(HOMER)
Welcome to Mountain Wind Appaloosa Ranch, located in the Mid Willamette Valley of Oregon, a beautiful area where you can ride to the ocean or in the mountains. Mountain Wind is a small breeding/training operation, we are the home of the WORKING FOUNDATION APPALOOSA.
WE believe that "a quality process creates a quality product . Before breeding, our mares will be shown to the best of their abilities we do not breed production style we believe its best to have 1 or 2 babies every year or two that are of high quality and by breeding to old line pedigreed, Appaloosa to Appaloosa horses we are hoping to help create a quality riding horse that can do it all.The controversy surrounding the Appaloosa horse from its conception overshadows its greatness even now. Even though our horses carry of well over 130 F# horses and many National Champions in their pedigrees I believe our horses must make their own way and prove that they too can achieve greatness. Our goal is to produce horses that can do, and a good breeding /training program will have three things. First and foremost a willingness to learn and change as you grow ( This means you have to put money, time and training into the horse). Second, horses that have the ability and intelligence to do anything ( good conformation and athletic ability). Third, the ability to maintain what you have accomplished (Breeding babies that out do both sire and dam,) .
Our herd is small and we have started by obtaining 3 outstanding fillies who's pedigrees include Toby (can be traced back to the original Nez Perce and Palouse Appaloosas), Red Eagle, Sheikh, Nugget Jim, Riley's Purple Doll, Navajo Britches, Simcoes Chinook, Bambi E, Sundance, Sanskrit, Joker B, Prince Plaudit and many more. We do all our own ground training and start showing as yearlings doing halter and In Hand Trail. Since my goal is to produce good riding horses we do not ride until they are 3 by then their mind and body has caught up with its self. At 3 we do a lot of trail riding and show in classes that the horses seem to excel in and cow work. Starting in 2008 we hope to find a stallion for Shawnee and if the Appaloosa horse Gods are willing we will get a stud to start our breeding program with. Please take a walk through our horses pages and let us know what you think.
